I had been longing to get the chance to teach and I believed that teaching can be done a lot different from what I experienced as a school girl. Soon as I started working as a teacher, my intuition led me to interaction and hands-on activities. Then problem emerged. How to keep up with all the content curriculum demands? Children need time to think, to try, to do and to make mistakes and learn from it. Hence, I came with an idea to capture my lectures on video since our text books are age inappropriate and therefore useless (not to mention that text book being overcrowded with scientific terminology). I planned to ask my spouse to capture me lecturing in our living room. Luckily, I googled up something called, flipped classroom, and realized that many teachers all over the world have already dealt with capturing video lectures. On a webinar I got just enough technical information, a link actually to Screen cast O matic , which allowed me to capture screencast and web cam at the same time, online and free. Consequently, my husband was "saved". | I wanted my students to be free, agile and engaged during a class period. It was soon clear that the energy I put into live lectures, however interesting and entertaining, is not equivalent to energy student put into learning in class. Therefore something had to be done! This video shows the learning environment that inspired me (especially part where students sit at their desks and you can see they are actually working). That is what I strive for. |
